12 - Mar - 2020

An extra live action for Japanese fans.

If you are also expecting the films scheduled for July and August, know that a new challenger appears: Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto-hen. For the third time, Kenshin's wanderings will take him to the stage, accompanied by his gang, of course.

In 2016, the first play was performed by the famous female-only theater group: Takarazuka Kagekidan, starring Seina Sagiri as Kenshin Himura. The story is a retelling of the arch of Oniwabanshuu, where we are introduced to a new rival - Kano Sozaburo, a former Shinsengumi who appears in Tokyo as an elegant and unrecognizable host, who upon meeting Kaoru Kamiya, falls in love with her. But behind this new character, there are issues that Kenshin can't just ignore.

In 2018, now with a mixed cast, but with Sagiri's return as Kenshin, the previous story is once again staged at Shinbashi Enbujo and later at Osaka Shochikuza.

Below you can see the video of the actor making a brief comment:

Koike Teppei's comment:
"Rurouni Kenshin" is a work I've been reading since I was a kid. Not to mention the charm of the character, the action scene is also a highlight. I want to be able to show the duality of the loose part of Himura Kenshin and the masculine part when fighting, so I want to play with a sharpness in myself. This is the second production with director Koichiro Shuichiro, this time Koike-sensei told me, "Please train your trunk!" (laughs). I have been to IHI Stage Around Tokyo, the theater this time, and I have been to the theater many times, and I saw actors running around the stage, so I myself want to stand on the stage and want to run. I'm looking forward to how Koike-sensei will use that theater to produce. We hope to provide new and entertaining show that uses plenty of stages so that not only the original fans, but also those who like theater and musicals can enjoy it. I myself will be hitting new challenges like sword fighting with all my might, so please look forward to it. We are waiting in the theater!

Shuichiro Koike's (director) comment:
Who would do "Rurouni Kenshin" outside Takarazuka? The first thing that came to mind when asked about this was Teppei Koike. The face looks just like the original, small but agile, flexible but strong like steel. That Teppei Kenshin will finally enter the IHI Stage Around Tokyo this fall. The story is about Kyoto, which was requested by many people. Kenshin and his friends confront Makoto Shishio and Aoshi Shinomori... A bloody flesh dance of the Meiji swordsmen. Stay tuned!!
